The Story of the Colour
This Sky Blue Dragon Cup draws from the poetic glaze favoured by Emperor Huizong of the Song dynasty, who imagined the ideal tone as sky after rain when clouds begin to lift. This vision gave rise to the legendary Ru ware — created exclusively for the imperial court and now counted among the rarest treasures in ceramic history.
Our sky blue echoes that soft, ethereal hue: cool, gentle, and quietly luminous. Long admired for its purity and refined calm, this colour embodies the understated beauty of Song artistry.
Design & Cultural References
The handle and saucer draw inspiration from the first Chinese dragon — the Jade Dragon of the Hongshan Culture, a Neolithic carving from 5,000 to 6,000 years ago. Recognised as one of the earliest dragon motifs in Chinese civilization, it embodies protection, vitality, and an enduring promise of renewal.
The cup body references the traditional Luohan cup, long used in monasteries and literati culture for its stable silhouette and balanced proportions — functional, grounded, and quietly humble.
By weaving history and Chinese aesthetics into a modern form, this design brings tradition into everyday life — allowing cultural heritage to accompany daily rituals and offer a gentle, steady sense of energy.
The Making & Practicality
We consciously source our materials from trusted regions in China, using Dehua porcelain, a fine white porcelain celebrated for its clarity, purity, and long-standing ceramic heritage. Fired at high temperatures, the cup achieves refined density and lasting durability while preserving an elegant finish. It is pleasantly weighted, comfortable to hold, and fully microwave- and dishwasher-safe — crafted to support modern living with quiet ease.
With a 290ml capacity, it adapts naturally to matcha, cappuccino, tea, or any drink you prefer.
Our original design is fully copyright-registered and proudly selected for presentation at London Design Festival.
